Author Biography:
THE George Orwell (real name Eric Arthur Blair) was born in 1903 in eastern India where his parents lived and died in a London hospital ward in 1950, aged just 47, after years of ill health. He worked various jobs for a living, from policeman in Burma to columnist in Paris and from bookshop clerk to BBC correspondent, inspired his literary pen name by a river in Suffolk County, fought in the Spanish Civil War on the side of the Democrats, denounced like no one else the corruption of power in Farm animals and gave us the exact definition of the word "dystopia" with his monumental 1984.
