THE BOOK
Lois is an 18-year-old Englishwoman, the daughter of an Anglican pastor, who had the misfortune of losing both of her parents. Destiny – in the form of her mother’s last wish – sends Lois to the other side of the Atlantic, to an inhospitable and superstitious country full of dangers. Her uncle, her mother’s brother, has converted to Puritanism and is therefore an enemy of Anglicanism. At the same time, he is also the only living relative she can rely on for her survival.
Lois suddenly finds herself in an unknown and hostile environment. The dense forests of New Epirus, which hide Indians and wild animals, make people suspicious, fearful, and negative towards anything different. Lois is a "heretical Anglican", so she is not one of them. And this is where Witches must be invented, the scapegoats of a puritanical and backward society...
