The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath is one of the most important works of H. P. Lovecraft, written around 1926–27 but published posthumously (1943). The plot follows Randolph Carter, a character who appears frequently in Lovecraft's works. Carter, through his dreams, searches for a wondrous and otherworldly city that was revealed to him in his sleep, but always eludes him. The search leads him on a long, dangerous journey through otherworldly places, creatures, and deities, with the ultimate goal of reaching the forbidden and mysterious Kadath, where he believes the secret of the city of his dreams lies.
