"We are the Motörhead and we play ron en roll". This simple statement, spoken in his characteristic hoarse voice Lemmy Kilmister at a deafening 130 decibels (as loud as a jet taking off or a gunshot at close range), it served as the most fitting introduction to the stormy, hard-core, relentless boogie of Motörhead at countless of their legendary concerts.
The form of Lemmy with the Rickenbacker bass slung over his shoulder, he looked like a WWII soldier with his machine gun, and he was a particularly terrifying but truly beautiful and unforgettable image. Something between Christ and an apocalyptic cowboy, swilling whiskey. And he wasn't kidding either. A few seconds after the above menacing declaration, the band unleashed a non-stop, seismic repertoire of exactly that: Rock and roll. A hellish sonic torrent.
Who Elvis and who Keith Richards, Lemmy is the king of Rock & Roll. No one even comes close to him. – Dave Grohl
He was my hero. He was a fucking awesome guy, a good friend. I miss him already. I'll never forget him. – Ozzy Osbourne
I don't play with regrets. Regrets have no meaning. After you did it, didn't you? You lived your life. There's no point in wishing it were different. – Lemmy Kilmister
