THE Neil Gaiman has been considered by many to be a prolific writer. And yet, between the two extremes of frugality and extravagance, Gaiman is wise: he creates transcendent stories that, although ominous, spring from an inner truth. For this reason, the prose and poems of this publication, although gloomy, have a purity: they are governed by an indefinable light that always leaves traces, which can and do deeply move the reader.
In all the stories and poems, Gaiman sets the impetuous scene so that we get lost in his lunar labyrinth where space and time become malleable dimensions, but which never respond to the will of the heroes. Consequently, gloom, suspense and unpredictability prevail in the narrative. From the beginning of time and the dark reversal of the classic fairy tale Snow White, to eternal punishment from demonic creatures that haunt you, a tribute to the ominous is paid. The talented illustrator Santiago Caruso sometimes it illuminates, sometimes it intensifies the darkness of the ominous in an artistic play of shadows where bodies become gigantic and where a monstrous fauna composed of disparate parts leaves us numb before the evocative mirror of terror.
This edition reveals a unique, brilliant storyteller at the height of his writing powers.
