SICK LIFE ABOVE PEACE
"Zoi illedemeni" was published in 1916, a rather dark year, since it was marked by the ongoing European war, the so-called national division and the Anglo-French blockade of Greece. Poverty, hunger and uncertainty, which engulfed society, perhaps gave rise to this dark and pessimistic narrative. His hero is a teenager tormented by the unity of love and death. The vicious cycle of the narrative is the love desire, which catalyzes the death instinct, manifested towards the stepmother's daughter, whom the hero considers responsible for his mother's death. The narrative is a record of the stream of consciousness of a prisoner in the emotions of man.
