New release from OXY publications, with Title "24 Hours in Ancient China", by Dr. Yijie Zhuang, the fourth in the "24 Hours in Ancient History" series.
The author attempts to bring her Ancient China to life Han Dynasty in the eyes of the reader, through his study of the everyday life of the people who lived, worked, played and socialized in Chinese territory.
The reader becomes an observer of one of the most characteristic 24 hours in Ancient China and its then capital, Chang'an, through the eyes of 24 people of different specialties, social classes and professions. A doctor, a gravedigger, a soldier, a farmer, a dancer, are just some of the examples.
The book visualizes both the society of the erstwhile Chinese empire and its structure during a period of prolonged economic and cultural prosperity, as well as the individual, personal dramas and struggle for survival of its inhabitants.
Author bio:
Dr. Yijie Zhuang did his PhD in archeology at the University of Cambridge and is currently Associate Professor of Chinese Archeology at University College London. His research work, as well as his body of writing, focuses mainly on ancient water management systems, but also on the agricultural histories of China and Southeast Asia.
