ALL ABOUT HISTORY – Issue 23

Its second fall issue ALL ABOUT HISTORY – Issue 23, is released on 20/10 at the kiosks of Attica and in selected bookstores everywhere in Greece and a month later, on 17/11 at the stands of the rest of Greece!

Flipping through the pages of the issue and focusing attention on the two central themes, one could think that they allude to the figure of Hercules, and in particular to the myth of the hero's choice between the path of Virtue and the path of Vice.

If becoming a samurai required steadfast devotion, self-sacrifice, and adherence to a code of rules, these elements recall the rugged path of Virtue. On the contrary, eating a piece of chocolate or hot cocoa is associated with escaping the trivial and possibly a moment when everyone gives in to a temptation. This very characteristic, to return to the myth of Hercules, constitutes the characteristic of the path of evil.

Fortunately for most of us, the above association is considered excessive to the point of Manichaeism. Woe to us if life had Absolute Good and Absolute Evil! It would be without color and transitions. The reader of the issue will realize through its pages that its thematic variety offers the opportunity to get to know worlds that are not traditionally examined historically.

A typical example is the presentation of the people who, with their lives and work, shaped today's gender identity and sexual orientation movements. It is their consideration as a historical phenomenon that is an achievement of modern European culture, and is a reminder of the struggles for the right to freedom of expression and self-determination over the last two centuries. The tolerance of diversity and the gradual reduction of intolerance are today proof that Voltaire's teachings were not "epea pteroenta".
Good reading!
