Someone described Hakim Bey as the Marco Polo of the underground. And he is not wrong. The person behind this name is of American descent and after the 60s movement evaporated, he toured the Middle East to end up in Iran. There he was initiated into the secrets of Sufism and continued his wanderings in the region. During the 1980s, he closely followed all the manifestations of the movement at that time: fanzines, mail-art, the anarchist practices of the time, (post)situationist literature.
