This year 2021 marks 56 years since the death of the writer and hagiographer Fotis Kontoglou (1965), and 36 years since the A΄ edition of his hitherto unknown and unpublished texts with the title: "Blessed Refuge".
The original idea of selecting these texts arose on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the writer's death in 1985, as a contribution of Akritas publications to the events of honor and commemoration of the memory of this important Greek.
Contributors of that first edition, the daughter of the late Fotis Kontoglou, Despo Io. Martinou, the editor Dimitris Kokkinos and the professor emeritus of the University of Athens P.V. Paschos who undertook the selection of the texts, the editing of the volume as well as the compilation of the Prolegomena.
The dream and hope of the contributors was to create a work that would be an intellectual offering to the readers but also to the intellectual progress of the volume in general. And they succeeded, this is proven by the constant reprints of this book until today.
The updated editions of Akritas are very pleased to present its reissue Blessed Refuge, at the request of many readers who seek the freshness of Fotis Kontoglou's words, but also the depth of his wisdom.
The texts of the book, always up-to-date, published in the newspaper "Eleftheria" over a period of twenty years (1948-1968), deal with various topics, which is why the volume is divided into three parts.
In the first part "Favorite Refuge", the author takes us on a journey through simple and everyday things, while also introducing us to hidden beauties.
In the second part "Cursed Greece", the pain for the alteration of the Greek Orthodox tradition dominates, but the light of hope also flickers - a masterful expression of paternal sorrow.
The last part of the book "Unfathomable Mysteries" is dominated by the metaphysical anxieties of the great author.
