THE CHURCH IS ONE

In our modern and open world, Metropolitan Antonios proposes to overcome his warlike past and the accompanying misconceptions with an authentic theological ecumenism, according to which the other, because he is different, is not a heretic and reprobate.

Metropolitan Antonios points out the weighty position of Fr. Georgios Florovsky "that none of the Christian confessions has determined in absolute terms the limits of the Church". For this reason, he believes that we have a responsibility as Orthodox to embrace, with humility, rigor but also charity, the historical reality of the modern Christian world.

The way to restore unity is neither "eucharistic communion" nor diplomatic talks and compromises, but the common struggle for holiness.
