Howard Phillips Lovecraft (Howard Phillips Lovecraft, 1890-1937) was an American author who was destined to change horror literature once and for all. Loner, misanthropic, conservative even for his conservative era, Lovecraft was a timid bookworm, a "nerd," as many would describe him today. But he went down in history not because of his character quirks, but because he created an amazing universe in which his stories take place and, above all, because he invented the pantheon of the Great Old Ones, which was enriched and systematized by his followers and evolved into the Cthulhu Mythology, in a postmodern cosmogony that was the culmination of his work.
During his lifetime, Lovecraft remained relatively unknown, as is often the case with geniuses. The recognition of his importance came after his death, while his work influenced many writers (Stephen King, JL Borges, Phillip Dick, Clive Barker, etc.) and was a source of inspiration for various artistic creations, from the psychedelic cinematic metaphors of from his short stories in the 1960s to lyrics by Metallica and Mercyful Fate.
The real Lovecraft is different from the one presented in the album Little Lovecraft: he was not an orphan, he lived with his mother, not his aunts, and the fanciful adventures that the creators of the album created for him would have given him a nervous breakdown. Although both his aversion to women (or rather his asexuality) and his misanthropy are given and undisputed by his biographers, here the young Lovecraft has some companions in his adventures to act as a counterweight to his flamboyant character. .
The album was a big hit in Spain and was then released in the US.
