Lydia Lunch, in the third book of Paradoxia, attempts to explore her darkest desires, her most unacknowledged fantasies, continuing a practice that characterizes all her work: the reduction of her personal experiences into an art form. The text is written in a non-verbal, often crude language, at the same time possessing an inquiry that differentiates it from the simple recording of events. The first-person narration follows the heroine – Lunch herself claims that this is not autobiography, but not fiction either – on a tortured journey with the final destination of reconciliation with absolute loneliness, but also the agonizing search for the next partner. The book is prefaced by the great American writer Hubert Selby Jr, spiritual father of the author, giving a special weight to the work.
