Stencil in Athens, Wall races vol.II

New, immediate, subversive, flexible and quite iconic, stencil graffiti appeared on the walls of cities at the beginning of the decade of zeros and came to stir the waters of "purity" in the urban landscape of modern megacities. Part of meta-graffiti, the new trend in the subversive space of public wall intervention, the stencil has earned its place in global and Athenian "wall culture". It is an art as well as a technique. It is an aesthetic intervention but also a social criticism. It is a multifaceted phenomenon that brings together the hitherto different traditions in aesthetic and social intervention in the public space, changes the way we see and experience the urban landscape, thus changing our city itself. Stencil in Athens, Murals vol. II contains photographic material from the walls of Athens, and is a complete record of this new street aesthetic.
