THE HOUSE IN THE FOG

Little Coraline's family's new house has twenty-one windows and fourteen doors. Thirteen of them open and close. The fourteenth is locked, because it leads to another world, a world almost identical to Coraline's, but so different.

Coraline will cross the threshold of this door, to explore the new world, and will be impressed by its attractions. There, however, she will meet her other parents and begin to understand the dark plans that are emerging to keep her there forever and change her...

In a world of living toys, spy mice, stolen souls and eternal fog, little Coraline must fight with all her might to save her real parents and her soul.

THE Neil Richard Gaiman was born on November 10, 1960 in Hampshire, southern England. Since 1992 he lives in the USA, near Minneapolis. When he was a child he discovered his love for books, reading and stories.

He read works by CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien, James Branch Cabell, Edgar Allan Poe, Michael Moorcock, Ursula K. Le Guin, Gene Wolfe and GK Chesterton. He described himself as "a wild child who grew up in libraries", saying he wouldn't be who he was without them. Gaiman began his writing career in England as a journalist for newspapers such as Time Out, The Sunday Times, Punch and The Observer.

His first book was a biography of Duran Duran, which he wrote in 3 months, and his second was also a biography of Douglas Adams, "Dont PanicThe Official Hitch Hikers Guide that the Galaxy Companion».

In addition to horror stories, he writes fantasy and science fiction, fairy tales and Apocalypse comedies in the form of novels, comics, picture books, short stories, poems, screenplays. Sometimes a song.

Gaiman refuses to follow any literary pattern or categorize his books into a single genre. He is used to wandering from genre to genre and combining them with ease. With influences from English folklore, glam rock and Midrash, it takes us to worlds of mythical creatures, gods and knights.

THE HOUSE IN THE FOG

The graphic novel Violent Cases it was the first of his many collaborations with artist Dave McKean. Their next collaboration was in the well-known DC comic, Black Orchid (1988). Black Orchid helped usher in a wave of titles that had a more melancholic, mature tone, with a painting aesthetic.

A year later, he came Sandman, an iconic Vertigo comic, which is influenced by Greek mythology and it is said that the hero, DreamMorpheus, bears a strong resemblance to its creator. This particular comic lasted until 1996 and won a large number of Will Eisner Awards, three Harvey Awards, the World Fantasy Award, etc. Some of his other comics/graphic novels are

The Books of Magic,

The Last Temptation,

1602Eternals,

Miracleman (Marvelman),

Creatures of the Night

and Murder Mysteries.

Neil Gaiman has many titles to his credit, which appeal to all ages. But it is worth mentioning the most important and interesting ones. With the book and animation Coraline, which was not originally intended for young ages, Gaiman brought Gothic horror back into vogue and managed to win several awards. He also wrote the books  Stardust  (Stardust).  Anansi Boys (The sons of the spider). "Smoke and Mirrors» and a part of his script Beowulf.

In recent years, Gaiman has, of course, published other books, including the brand new one Norse Mythology. His book American Gods transferred to television. Wrote an episode on "Doctor Who", the The Doctor's Wife, which made The Times newspaper call him a "hero".

As strange as it sounds, Gaiman was influenced, learning something important about storytelling from a cousin who was a teacher in the Holocaust. The magic of escapist fiction is that it can offer you an escape from painful situations. Armor you with armor, knowledge, weapons and other tools that can make your life more beautiful.

THE HOUSE IN THE FOG

According to Gaiman, we perceive stories as lies and truths at the same time. They show us how the world works and come to us in a presentable package, which gives us joy and the will to share it with others. We learn to empathize with real people through fictional people.

The most important thing that imagination offers us is that it lets us look through the eyes of others and that behind every person's eyes there is someone like us.

In closing, I will leave you with this unique thought of his:

"A world in which there are monsters, ghosts and other creatures that want to steal your heart. A world where there are angels and dreams, a world where there is hope."
