THE ARRIVAL

How many words are needed to describe a stranger and his journey?

None, according to Shaun Tan. Since the story of every immigrant, every refugee and every exile is universal and beyond words. In his graphic novel "The arrival" he uses only images, paying tribute to all those who, leaving everything behind, dared to stray.

The Fourfouri Publications with great pride present the award-winning, illustrated, but wordless, novel by the Australian artist - even an Oscar Award winner - Shaun Tan.

A man gives his wife and daughter a final kiss. He boards a steamship and crosses the ocean. The most painful yet most important journey of his life begins – he leaves his homeland to build a better future for his family. He will travel alone to a mysterious land, a place without family and friends, where nothing has a name and the future remains uncertain.

"After Arrival and in whatever category you place Shaun Tan's works, it is characteristic that they possess such visual eloquence that they will motivate you to seek out each of his subsequent creations"

  • The New York Times

"A paean to the spirit, tenacity and guts of the immigrant, exquisitely crafted for optimum effect."

  • Kirkus Reviews
