THE PROPHET

One of the most widely translated works in a new edition by Acid publications and the series Selected!

When you reach the top of the mountain, only then will you begin to climb. And when the earth claims your limbs, then you will truly dance.

A puzzle for the literary critics of his time and a gift for readers everywhere, O PROPHET is his most famous and popular work Khalil Gibran. THE "Man from Lebanon", who also left his mark as a painter on the visual scene of America at the beginning of the 20th century, presents here one of the most condensed in their essence and timeless in their appeal comments on the human condition, delving with an effortless poetry into the most common and everyday issues: work, friendship, beauty, pain, time, reason, death. And the Prophet's humanistic message, wise as a caress, is so clear and eloquent that it ranks Gibran as the third most widely read poet in the world, after Shakespeare and the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu.

Circulates from OXY publications in May 2021.

Author Biography:

THE Khalil Gibran (1883-1931) was born in the village of Bsari in northern Lebanon, immigrated with his family to America in 1895 and soon began to immerse himself in the arts of writing and painting. He exhibits his paintings in Boston and New York, studies fine arts in Paris and publishes texts in Arabic-language newspapers that almost got him excommunicated by the Syrian authorities due to their anti-clerical content. THE Prophet it was published in 1923 written in English and in the West it was "rediscovered" in the 60s through the questioning movements. As the academic and critic Souhail Bousroui characteristically notes, "Gibran's life and work move between the revolutionaryism of Nietzsche, the pantheism of William Blake and the mysticism of the Sufis."
