TAO TE KING

The Oral Tradition of China and Taoism in a book!

True words are not nice

Nice words are not true.

Whoever has virtue is not long-winded.

Anyone who talks long has no virtue.

Anyone who knows the Tao is not learned,

Anyone who is learned does not know this.

The Acid publications through the series Selected, deliver in a new edition and translation one of the most widely read books in the entire history. The Tao Te Ching (The Book of the Way and Virtue), The cornerstone of Taoism in East Asia, it is not a book to "improve" yourself, nor a "dazzling" westernized text that somehow reflects the wisdom of ancient Chinese culture. Consisting of about 5000 ideograms and written in the 6th BC. century by the mythical Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu (the "inconceivable Dragon of Heaven", as the saying attributed to Confucius), the Tao Te Ching took its final form two to three centuries later and still holds the keys to Eastern philosophy by teaching the Way: that is, the adaptation of primordial knowledge to the experience of reality – in simple words, abstraction and harmony.

Author Biography:

The philosopher of Tao and its mythical author Tao Te Ching Lao Tzu or Lao Tzu (Lao-Tzu; in Pinyin Laozi; in Chinese Teacher Lao) probably lived in the 6th BC. century and what we know about him comes from Chinese tradition and much later biographies of him, which locate him as an archivist to the emperor of China (Chu dynasty) and a scholar of the sacred teachings. According to legend, completing his writing Book of the Way (Tao King) and his Book of Virtue (The King) he disappeared riding a buffalo and lived to be 200 years old without being seen again. The Tao Te Ching is the most widely read book in the Chinese language.
