Based on the real-life incident of an "ordinary" couple in love seeking their fortune in exile, Leo Tolstoy seizes the opportunity to unite with the Polish people and dignify the inhuman policy of the tsars who had turned Russia into a prison, not only for their own people but also for the neighbors, as was the Polish.
Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910), the "tsar" of Russian letters, was born south of Moscow to an aristocratic family, but was orphaned by his parents before the age of ten. He is the author of some of the most famous novels of all time, such as "Anna Karenina" and "War and Peace." Despite the widespread acceptance of his work while he was still alive, he renounced fame by focusing on humanist ideas and an idiosyncratic religiosity that was reflected in his later works.
