THE SECRET OF THE SOUL

PIRAEUS 1935. Melpo, an unruly and dreamy sixteen-year-old girl, secretly leaves her island, Kalymnos, believing that her escape is the only solution for a better life. The dirty streets, the tekdes, the tin mahalades, as well as all those strange people of the port of Piraeus, are the first images of the new page of her life.
A life that soon became a slow death, without end and mercy. An illusory love and a fatal marriage will be her entrance ticket to Vourla prison - the port's public almshouse - since, sold by her own man, she will now belong to the property of the notorious trafficker Menelaos Andreopoulos. Behind the hermetically sealed large entrance door, 72 troubled souls are prostituted, like Menelaus' "pullen", Teresa, a young charming Egyptian and Lena, the cheap petite refugee from Smyrna.
Melpo, Teresa and Lena will share the same bouka (wing) under the watchful eye of Katina's cleaning lady, an old fallen prostitute with a broken life, but a big heart. Unconfessed secrets, deep confessions, lust for revenge, a murder that will go unpunished, but also dead end loves will strengthen and seal the friendship of the four women. Their release from soul hell and life in the outside world will dramatically test their endurance, as well as all their relationships. And this, will only be the beginning of the unpredictable, painful and bloody journey of their lives.
