Decius Caecilius Metellus, known for his habit of solving crimes and angering the powerful of Rome, returns to the city to take up the duties of agoranom. These include the organization of -expensive- contests with gladiators and beasts. But the city around him suddenly begins to fall apart: buildings collapse, the Tiber floods, the sewers overflow and Decius suspects that his matches will end up becoming a death trap for the spectators! The only solution is to find the culprits himself and his investigations begin with the greedy Roman contractors.
