THE BOOK OF THE ELECTORS

The book that laid the foundations of the Rastafari movement for the first time in Greek!

In his living room he will see a rooster pacing on the moon and bees on roses in Venus. The workers on Mars, the strikers on Earth and my daughter at the university on Jupiter.

The Acid publications with great pride present, through the series Selected and for the first time in Greek, one of the most influential books on the culture of the African tribe.

THE Bible of the Chosen first published in 1924, a heyday for social movements aimed at highlighting African heritage on the western side of the Atlantic, it was the first book in the 20th century to be published by an author born on the Caribbean island of Anguilla: the Robert Athley Rogers, founder and preacher of the Afrocentric faith of Africanism, which envisioned the union of the oppressed African diaspora with "mother" Africa. Before being banned by the authoritarian regimes of the time, Bible of the Chosen (also known as "Black Bible") managed to be read in black communities from Jamaica to the mines of South Africa and act as a harbinger of the movement of Rastafari and of its wave reggae music that followed a few decades later.

Author Biography:

Robert Athley Rogers was born in 1891 on the Caribbean island of Anguilla, and between 1913 and 1917 he wrote the Bible of the Elect to preach Athlikanism, the Afrocentric religion he had founded, as a counterweight to the doctrine of the Bible which he characterized as "white origin". For Rogers, the Promised Land for all Africans was Ethiopia. He traveled to cities in the US, Latin America and South Africa, spreading his message and attracting a number of followers. In 1930, Haile Selassie – an emblematic figure for the Rastafari movement – was crowned emperor of Ethiopia and ten months later, at the age of 40, Rogers committed suicide, believing that his mission on earth was complete.
